Interest Payments

Cardiff has to pay out interest on loans taken out for various purposes.

The graph shows that the club has had large interest payments every year, and that they are getting larger. They are getting larger because the business is losing money every year and is having to borrow more to survive. A vicious circle.

The figures are not good but they are not that different from many other sides. What they show is that over the last 8 years just under £9m, roughly 14% of the money that comes in goes straight out again in interest. Part of the reason for the increase is that the banks will charge a higher rate of interest the more risky the business is. As Cardiff continues to struggle as a business the worse this will become.

Not shown in the graph is that in 2007 £1.5m worth of interest payments were written off by the directors who were owed the money.
