Hearts - Football Finances

The 2009 results show no radical improvement from the previous years of the Romanov ownership.

A financial loss of over £8m, despite selling Berra and making a £1.8m on the deal, a scary drop in revenue down to below 2005 figures, interest payments of £1.8m for he season, debts of over £34m. It's difficult to spot any good news in there.

The club along with many in Scotland are dependent on nurturing and then selling young players. This is a reasonable plan but it won't make supporters feel happy. As they learn to love the improving young players, and dream of building success around them, the players are sold, dreams are dashed and disillusionment sets in. The drop in gate receipts to the lowest level since 2003 shows fans patience, and loyalty may well be wearing thin.
