Hibs - Football Finances

I was persuaded to create this site by Andy. I had had a lot of fun with the Newcastle version and when I said I felt it was a good idea to try and do it again, he suggested Hibs. I also need to say thanks to Brian for supplying copies of the club accounts.

The Newcastle one highlights a number of issues, and generally left Newcastle fans feeling angry at the mismanagement by the board of the club. The removal of so much money from the club into shareholders pockets was the key issue there.

It is a different situation with Hibs. To start with the numbers involved are very different. Newcastle as a mid-table Premiership side received over £26m in Sky money alone in 2006. Hibs as a top 5 side, with two decent cup runs had a total income of under £9m. For Hibs  it seems to be about financial survival rather than anything else. Over the last 8 years the club seems to have survived due to the largesse of Tom Farmer, from not spending any money at all on transfers, and from raising kids and selling them on.

This site tries to explain where the money goes. The club accounts are not as detailed as those of Newcastle, so some information is not available.

If you have any comments, or any suggestions, or any questions just get in touch.
