Hibs - Player Trading
The club report on the amount of money they have made from player sales.
This figure is the difference between what is received, and what the player was worth on the books. Players who have come up through the ranks are valued at nothing, as no transfer money has ever been paid for them. This means that the sale of Garry O'Connor for £1.6m is viewed as £1.6m profit. Clearly there can be a loss made on a player. In the year ended July 2004 there was a loss of over £250,000 on players sold. We're not sure who this is, or whether it covers a few players leaving. Please contact us if you know who the losses were for.
The total amount of money made is £12.7m which will help to keep the club going financially. The £4.4m received for Scott Brown in the summer of 2007 was all profit, and was a huge boost to the club's finances.
2008 - the £2.9m profit came from the sales of Whitaker and Murphy, and the spending of some of that money on new players.
