Player Trading

When a player leaves Hull the club may make a profit on the deal. If the player is sold for more than their book value it is a profit, for less a loss.

There are two things shown on the graph below. The amber column shows how much the club has spent on bringing in new players each year. This could be viewed as a measure of how much the board has backed the manager. The second blue column shows the net amount spent each year. So any money generated by the sale of players is taken off the outgoings.

Hull have clearly backed their managers over the years, with only 2007 being a year when they did not make net payments for players. As mentioned elsewhere the 2008 investment was large by comparison with what had gone before, 2009 even bigger again. This is shown both here, and in the wages bill.
