When a player leaves Palace the club may make a profit on the deal. If the player is sold for more than their book value it is a profit, for less a loss.

Palace had to offload as many expensive players as possible when they went down. So in 2006 the sales of Fitz Hall and Andy Johnson created a big profit for the club.

The graphs below show fees paid and then the net spend. The graph shows that only in 2005 did the club spend more on bringing players in than it got in from selling players. Overall more than £16m has been made on selling players.

The red column is a measure of how much the club have backed their managers. So altogether over the 7 seasons shown, the club have signed cheques to the value of nearly £24m to bring in new players.
