The amount of money the club has spent on players is way out of lien with what the club can afford to pay.
That the club spent a net £36m on new players in 2008 beggars belief. The club had made a loss of £23m in 2007 and then it went on this wild spending spree. It is fair to say that winning the Cup was a huge high in the supporting life of many fans, and that it was only achieved on the back of the player spend. The short-term elation may well end with long term financial disaster.
