The graph below shows the amounts paid each year to bring in new players. These figures may not have been quoted in the press but they are the figures that the club report in their accounts.

As mentioned on the amortisation page Rangers have reduced their expenditure through 2006 and 2007 but went back to being big spenders in 2008. The club are not financing these deals from increased income but through increased debt, not a sensible long-term strategy.

That the club spent £11m on players after being knocked out of the Champions League is a shockingly bad financial decision that will have helped the banks come to the conclusion that club is not in control of its expenses.
