Rangers - Income

This graph shows the breakdown of the money Rangers has taken in since 1997.

The total income since 1st July 1996 is just over £508m.

The amount of money coming into the club is key to its ability to compete. Of course the figures peaked in 2004 and 2006 due to playing in the Champions League. The 2006 Champions League run brought in £15.5m.

The dramatic drop from 2006 to 2007 comes from the club selling off all its shops and getting JJB to run them. JJB paid money up front for this, and now also guarantee the club a minimum of £3m each year. This figure can be higher if sales levels are met, which hopefully they were with the Uefa run in 2008.

The 2008 figures are fantastic compared to previous years, and show the importance of European games. The 2009 figures are liable to be closer to the 2007 results.

The graph below shows the split of the income across the areas the club report. The biggest monetary change since 1999 is in gate receipts and TV money. Many clubs separate out the amounts that come from TV revenue, but Rangers do not. The other huge area of growth is in retail.

As mentioned above the drop in Retail comes form the JJB deal.

The 2008 figures highlight the leap in Football/TV money, and the Retail money due to the European run.

The final graph shows the split of the income for 2008.
