Rangers- Football Finances
For many people the only time they hear about Rangers' finances are once a year when the official financial results are announced.
This site hopefully presents to you the financial results in words that we can all understand. All the numbers quoted about the club have come from the club's own accounts. If a mistake has been made in this, and you spot it, then PLEASE let us know, the aim is to be as honest as can be. If you have more accurate information then please get in touch.
Rangers' challenge which is mentioned in the club accounts every year is to try and balance the team's progress and the long-term stability of the club. It would be easy to speculate fortune on bringing in expensive players, on expensive long-term contracts to 'guarantee' Champions League football every season. This plan is fraught with danger as both Leeds and Newcastle have shown in England.
The dip in the financial performance in 2007 shows clearly how important it is to do well in the Champions League.
The 2008 results show that the club had a huge leap in income from the Cup runs doing the season. Unfortunately this was matched by a leap in costs. This covers putting on games, getting the team to away games, and performance bonuses. The overall profit of £7.2m was lower than the money raised form the sale of Alan Hutton.
The early exit from Europe for 2009 would suggest that the financial results reported in 2009 will be very much worse than those from 2008.
If you have any suggestions on what else should or could be looked at please get in touch. The intention of the site is not to try and influence your opinion on the way the club has been run, just to give you the facts, and let you draw your own conclusions.
