Spurs Income

This graph shows the breakdown of the money Spurs has taken in since 1997.

The total income in the 9 seasons since 1st August 1997 is just roughly £730m.

The amount of money coming into the club is key to its ability to compete. Over the last 5 years the annual turnover has increased roughly 75%. This is a fantastic improvement for any business.

Most of this extra money is from Sky payments, although there is a healthy increase in sponsorship money as well. The big problem seems to be the money made from bums on seats. The gates receipts in 2002 were £27.7m, that figure was not matched until 2007. A direct comparison would be Newcastle whose lowest figure in the same period was £27m, and their highest £35.2m. That gives them a huge advantage in ability to spend money. The plans announced for the new stadium would transform this area, and should mean a huge boost to income. It will of course cost money to construct, but in the long run shoudl be for the best.

The individual change in each of the areas is shown here.

The two charts below shows how the proportions, and the overall totals have changed between 1998 and 2008. It is clear that the Sky money is now the key factor in income, and that "bums on seats" is showign less importance all the time. Again the new ground should shift the balance.
